NHS workers were greeted with bouquets of flowers during a dedicated shopping hour at Tesco branches across Oxfordshire.

Customers from the healthcare sector arrived an hour before the traditional shop opening yesterday as part of the latest ramped up efforts by the supermarket to halt panic-buying in the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.

One healthcare worker Christine Crook took to social media to applaud the Tesco staff at the Marcham Road branch in Abingdon.

"Thank you to all the amazing staff, they are doing a fantastic job.

"It was such a lovely gesture."

The retailer also has dedicated special one-hour slots for the elderly and vulnerable on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9am and 10am.
