A POPULAR Oxford restaurant has closed its doors for the 'foreseeable future'.

Edamame owner Peter Galpin said: "The good health of my staff, our valued guests, our families and communities has been of paramount importance in this decision.

"I cannot justify keeping Edamame open in such uncertain times, and I believe that by closing we may help to prevent the potential spread of Covid-19.

"We encourage you all to take the necessary precautions for yourselves, and we wish you good health and lasting resilience in this challenging and unprecedented state of affairs worldwide."

The restaurant had previously planned to bring in 'highly unusual changes' to help combat the spread of the virus.
