PUBS and restaurants can to be turned into takeaways to help provide hot food for people in self-isolation during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the further economic support amid the Covid-19 spread. 

The new measures also include relaxing planning regulations to allow pubs and restaurants to start providing takeaways without a further planning application that is normally required.

This will be introduced as soon as possible but will apply for a limited period of time.

The measures are the latest in a series of steps the Government is taking to support businesses and help people who need to self-isolate.

One Oxford pub the White Hart of Wytham revealed they have begun doing takeaways from yesterday with a delivery menu available.

Owners wrote on the pub's Facebook page: "We will prioritise our deliveries to anyone who is self-isolating and/or aged over 70 years.

"The pub has always been at the heart of the community and we will do our level best to continue this ancient tradition."

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick MP said: "We are committed to doing everything we can to tackle the pandemic and support people, businesses and communities through this difficult time.

"These changes will provide vital flexibility to pubs and restaurants and will ensure people are able to safely stay at home while still supporting some of the great local businesses across this country."
