Over a lifetime, Low Carbon Hub’s renewable energy installations are anticipated to deliver £2.5 million towards community projects that tackle climate change and £1.7 million saving on electricity and bills.

Chief executive Barbara Hammond said: “Climate change is a global crisis that needs local solutions.

“Invest in the Community Energy Fund and be part of the change to a greener, fairer energy system.”

Already more than 1,000 investors have raised £6 million to develop 49 renewable energy projects including solar panels, energy balancing smart grids and hydroelectric power.

All of the surplus money generated from selling the renewable energy is used to support further community action on climate change.

Since 2011 the Low Carbon Hub has donated £500,000 into community projects.

Lisa Ashford, CEO at Ethex said: “The Low Carbon Hub is a perfect example of ambitious and innovative community energy projects bringing about the vital transformation to a clean and democratically-owned energy system in this country.

"It’s clear that people who are committed to taking meaningful action on climate change want to be a part of this.

“I would encourage more community groups and people who are keen to accelerate a rapid transition to a low carbon society to get involved.”
