ENVIRONMENTALISTS from across Oxfordshire are invited to an open meeting to plan a major upcoming climate protest.

Organised by the student climate network behind Oxford Youth Strike 4 Climate the assembly will focus on the global strike on April 3 that will see hundreds of thousands of people across the world join Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in a school walkout.

One campaigner EJ Fawcett, 18, who has been involved in the local chapter of Youth Strike 4 Climate since for more than a year stressed that it is important for different environmental groups to work together.

EJ, who is a pupil at Larkmead School in Abingdon, added: "We can only solve the climate crisis if we work together; this is a chance to connect with other activists, especially those who haven't been involved with the strikes and are too old to join UKSCN."

Another activist Holly Thompson, 17, confirmed XR Youth Oxford will be attending the meeting.

Youth strikers also announced a protest on Friday at 11am where they will gather at Bonn Square and march to County Hall to hold a Revise-In in the car park.

In a statement yesterday activists said their aim is not to cause serious disruption but to draw attention to the 'limited powers' of local government.

The protest at the city centre is part of their preparation for the global strike.
