AS PANIC-buying continues to sweep across Oxfordshire one mysterious artist has taken it upon themselves to highlight the problem.

Shoppers in Oxford's city centre can spot the popular Athirty4's newest piece - a roll of toilet paper titled 'Roll With the Herd'.

A sign above the artwork positioned on the wall outside of Boots on Cornmarket Street said: "Panic-buying shoppers, please use this toilet facility should you need to go for a panic poo."

Athirty4's piece draws attention to reports of supermarkets having to ration items such as toilet paper and antibacterial hand gel because of 'panicked' shoppers stockpiling hygiene products during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Oxford Mail:

Athirty4 said: "I created it in light of the panic shopping that has been unfurling up and down the country.

"Fear of getting the coronavirus is one thing, however, there is the added worry of mass panic, which we need to avoid at all costs.

"Panic buying merely shows that some people are still only a blink of an eyelid away from returning to a primitive, herd-mentality mindset."

As the first cases of coronavirus infections were confirmed in Oxfordshire last week, shoppers rushed to stores to stock up hand sanitiser, toilet paper and cleaning supplies that were all in short supply.
