A 29-YEAR-OLD man is in hospital with 'serious' injuries after a 'shocking' stabbing this morning. 

Police were called to Banbury town centre at around 6.40am to a report of a stabbing. 

A fight took place inside a property in Butchers Row which then continued outside into the road.

The victim, a man aged 29, sustained stab wounds.

Police believe there were two offenders, both of which were described as Asian men.

They fled the scene on foot and a weapon has not been located.

It is thought the three men had been in Venus nightclub in Banbury on Friday evening before the attack.

The victim has been taken to hospital with 'serious but not life threatening' injuries.

A scene watch is in place in Butchers Row while officers investigate this incident and there will be an increased police presence in the town centre.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Jess Milne, of Abingdon police station, said: “This was a shocking incident in Banbury, which resulted in a man sustaining stab wounds.

“He has been taken to hospital, with injuries that are serious but not life threatening."

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident, and that might have information, to please come forward and speak to police.

“This incident took place at a time where it could be likely that someone saw or heard something. I would urge those people to get in contact with us."

She added: “I would also like to reassure residents that we believe this incident to be isolated, and that there is not a wider threat to the wider community.

“There will be an increased police presence in Butchers Row, as well as the remainder of Banbury town centre today, as officers carry out an investigation.

"We are determined to locate and bring the offenders to justice, as well as locate the weapon.

“Incidents such as this are investigated thoroughly and we would like to reassure and thank the public for their patience and understanding while this takes place."
