PUPILS at a Witney school have been urged not to try out 'dangerous' pranks that have gone viral on social media.

Wood Green School contacted parents this week, highlighting how 'social media is increasingly promoting potentially dangerous activities'.

In a message on the secondary school's website, assistant headteacher Mr Middleton said: "These ‘prank’ styled activities can seem innocuous to children, but can be quite harmful.

"These activities are not allowed at school and this is clear to students because they do not match one of our three main rules of being ‘safe’."

He did not specify the prank, but it could refer to something called the 'skullbreaker' or 'trip jump challenge', which has gained widespread controversy.

It involves an unsuspecting person being asked by two friends to jump in the air, during which his or her legs are kicked from under them, causing them to fall on their back or even neck.

The falls are filmed and uploaded to social media platforms such as TikTok, for the sake of getting laughs and likes.

Mr Middleton's message to parents added: "Please could you talk to your child about any activities they have seen or learnt about in or out of school and identify the potential risks.

"We have been giving similar messages out in school. If you are concerned about anything please contact school, via your child’s tutor, so that we can act swiftly and prevent any harm."

There have been reports worldwide of children getting concussions or ending up in hospital due to injuries sustained as a result of the prank.

The school has been contacted for clarification about what triggered the warning.
