A CONTROVERSIAL poster was discovered in the unisex toilets of a popular museum in Oxford this afternoon.

A reader alarmed by the red sticker at the Ashmolean, which read 'Gender neutral facilities are not safe for women and girls; women demand women-only spaces now', shared the photos with the Oxford Mail.

When contacted by the newspaper a spokesperson for the Ashmolean confirmed that the poster was not displayed by museum staff.

They added: "This is the first time we are hearing about this as this is not the view of the Ashmolean.

"The poster will be take down immediately."

Some feminist groups have previously criticised plans for unisex toilets and changing rooms to be more accommodating to the trans community, saying they would pose a danger to women.

It is unclear who stuck the poster in the gender-neutral cubicle at the museum, however, a website url links to a Times newspaper opinion piece written by special adviser to the Prime Minister Andrew Gilligan.
