AN Oxford branch of supermarket Waitrose is set to go Japanese by offering customers handmade sushi.

Fans of the delicacy – a concoction of rice, vegetables, fish and seafood, often made into rolls and sliced – will be able to tuck into some freshly made treats at the Sushi Daily kitchen, which is set to open in the Botley Road store on Tuesday, March 17, with free tastings all day.

The new counter will be the franchise’s first store in the city, but its fourth in Oxfordshire, with Waitrose supermarkets in Witney, Abingdon and Wallingford already offering diners the chance to pick up supplies of the healthy snack.

Sushi Daily is set to offer an open kitchen experience where customers will be able to see their food being prepared on the spot.

The managing director of Sushi Daily, Ian Roberts said: “Customers can see their sushi being prepared while they shop and even order platters for family meals or special occasions.

“We offer convenience without the guilt – picking up fresh high-quality sushi from one of our counters is just as easy as grabbing a processed sandwich that’s full of preservatives.”

The counter will also offer a recently-launched spring menu that includes a Spicy Crunch Selection, an assortment of Veggie Favourites and traditional Japanese desserts of mochi – a traditional rice cake made of moulded glutinous rice.
