Customers queued up this morning for the new Greggs in Cornmarket.

The new branch close to Carfax is one of the largest in the country, with seating upstairs in the former Moss Bros store for 66 people.

The bakery will open six days a week at 7am and staff opened the doors for the first time at 9am.

The wait is finally over for shoppers including students who have been keen for a Greggs to open in the city centre.

First in the queue were Benjamin Willbery, 40, and his girlfriend Clare Capp, 37, both from Oxford.

Ben said: "I'm a big fan of the vegan sausage roll - I think it looks great inside the new Greggs."

Ms Capp added: "The vegan sausage roll tastes meatier than the meat one."

Blacksmith Rupert Bain, 43, from Barton, said: "I think they have done a great job here.

"This place is something else - it's spacious with lots of seating for people to come here and have a natter while they enjoy some tasty snacks."

Regional manager Steve Russell said: "I'm delighted with how the opening has gone - customers are already queuing and I'm chuffed to bits - it's going to be incredibly popular."

Greggs also has branches at London Road, Headington, Templars Square, Cowley, and in towns around the county including Abingdon.
