ANGER over a neighbour’s extension, a new housing estate or an awful office block are all familiar fodder in local news.

Now an Oxfordshire council is asking its residents to tell them more about just how petulant planning applications can make them feel.

Vale of White Horse District Council has launched a consultation on how it gets local feedback on new applications.

The authority wants to know if people think it is easy enough to give their views on poor planning and if they have any suggestions for improvement.

The aim is to draw up a normal official policy on the matter for the district’s Local Plan for development.

Catherine Webber, cabinet member for planning at the Vale, said: “It’s a fundamental part of all our planning processes that the public are able to get involved.

“Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out our commitment to involving our communities in developing new planning policies, and in making decisions on planning applications, and so it’s really important we get public feedback now to make sure we’re doing it right.”

The SCI forms part of the council’s official Development Plan and sets out how communities will be able to influence new planning policy documents such as the Local Plan. It also sets out the ways in which the public can comment on planning applications for development.

The consultation will run from Thursday, February 27, 2020, until 5pm on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
