SONGWRITER Billy Bragg is to visit Oxford to campaign on behalf of Larry Sanders, the frontrunner for the Democratic Nomination in the United States election.

Lifelong political activist Mr Bragg will join campaigners outside the Clarendon Building in Broad Street on Sunday at noon.

The singer will be headlining the campaign for Mr Sanders, whose brother Larry Sanders, a Green Party stalwart, lives in Oxford.

Billy Bragg is backing Bernie and encouraging US nationals living and studying here in the UK to vote for him in the ongoing Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary.

A spokesman for Bernie 2020 UK said: “Billy Bragg, award-winning singer-songwriter and lifelong political activist, will be headlining the campaign rally, and encouraging US nationals living and studying here in the UK to vote for Bernie Sanders in the ongoing Global Primary. Larry Sanders, brother of the frontrunner for the Democratic Nomination, will also speak at the rally.”

There will be voter registration at the event, and information about how to vote in person at polling stations in Oxford on Tuesday and Saturday.

Bernie Sanders has won the popular vote in the first three primary contests and is favourite to win a majority of Super Tuesday contests.

Bernie 2020 UK is campaigning to win the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary.

Democrats outside the USA host a separate state-level primary with more than 200 polling locations in 45 countries.

Voting begins on Super Tuesday (March 3) and concludes on March 10.

Voters can also cast their ballot by email.
