HOMELESSNESS for hundreds of people and families in Oxfordshire will continue to be prevented by an Oxford charity, thanks to a £1.2m grant from the county council.

The funding for Cowley-based Connection Support, will provide services for those who need housing support across Oxfordshire.

The Cowley-based Connection Support housing service helps over 350 residents at any given time and up to 1,000 annually.

The service provides a lifeline to those threatened with homelessness and experiencing sudden illness, relationship breakdown, or sudden unemployment. Assistance is also offered to individuals in the private rental sector.

The investment of £600,000 a year has been extended for an additional two years until April 2022.

The support service successfully intervenes in over 97 per cent of cases in order to avoid the trauma of eviction and homelessness for families and single people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Stephen Chandler, director of adult social care at the council, said: “Connection Support provides essential support to some of the most vulnerable people in society and helps people to get back on their feet.”
