A VIRTUAL reality session was among the unique experiences that helped a West Oxfordshire care home impress inspectors from the UK's health watchdog.

Mill House has been rated 'good' overall following a visit by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Witney care home, which provides residential, nursing and palliative care, was rated as 'outstanding' for its response to residents’ needs and received good ratings in the four other categories – being safe, being effective, having a caring service and also being well-led.

The CQC report emphasised Mill House residents were pleased with care by staff, as well as the high quality of food.

A particular source of praise was the magic moments club, where staff provide experiences based on people's interests.

These have included a trip to Cotswold Water Park and residents getting to try virtual reality headsets.

Manager Michael Daglish said: “We are extremely proud to see such a positive rating on all five categories.

"The inspection has recognised our staff’s hardworking ethic, and to receive an outstanding rating in our responsive care really does certify the efforts from all our staff members.

"We are extremely happy with the results.”
