WHITCHURCH Rugby Club had been due to play Old Halesonians last weekend, but Storm Dennis was the bigger rival, preventing any rugby from taking place.

Old Halesonians sit third from bottom in the Midlands Division One West, with 31 points compared to Whitchurch’s sixth place standing, with 53 points.

Whitchurch narrowly beat Newbold on Avon last time out, whereas Old Halesonians were beaten away from home by Sutton Coldfield in a low scoring affair.

Earlier in the season Whitchurch beat Old Halesonians 27-14, so the Reds should by favourites for the rescheduled fixture.

The fixture has been rescheduled for this weekend, to take place at Old Halesonians ground in Wassel Grove, Stourbridge at 2.15pm.

The initial fixture was called off on advice of the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

“Following advice from the RFU, Whitchurch RFC postponed all fixtures this weekend due to the abnormal forecasts for Storm Dennis,” said a club spokesman.

“The first team game against Halesonians will now take place next Saturday, February 22.”

On the advice from the RFU, the second team’s game was also postponed, and the Colts match will be decided by a coin flip.

“The second team game is being rearranged,” the spokesman added.

“The Colts Cup match, also against Halesonians coincidentally, will have to be decided on the toss of a coin as the fixture list is already overcrowded.

“Safety issues for travellers was the main concern and Whitchurch took immediate steps to ensure that all possibilities for accidents were avoided.”
