A NURSERY that has created a 'wonderland' of learning has secured Ofsted's highest praise for the third time.

Culham Science Centre Nursery and Preschool has retained its 'outstanding' rating, despite the regulator bringing in a tougher inspection framework in September.

The nursery, which had 157 children on roll during the visit, is located next to Culham Science Centre near Abingdon.

Ofsted's new report, published on Tuesday after a visit last month, said: "The classrooms and outside areas are a wonderland of interesting, challenging activities.

"Rich, imaginative and well-planned...activities and experiences sustain children's interests and keep them engaged.

"The excitement of learning is evident in every part of the nursery."

The inspector said children demonstrated 'exceptionally high levels of independence' and were 'engrossed' in their work.

The nursery's manager Nikki Durkin said: "My team work incredibly hard - they are so dedicated and love the children.

"They deserve every accolade they receive. I'm so proud that Ofsted agree that they are outstanding."

Her team is not aware of another nursery in Oxfordshire that has secured three 'outstanding' ratings in a row.

Many of the 42 staff members have been at the nursery for more than 10 years, and have seen it through all three inspections since it registered in 2012.

The nursery was rated 'outstanding' in all areas, which is the best possible judgement.

Ofsted's report added: "Staff know the children remarkably well and are skilled in knowing how to challenge and extend children's learning even further.

"Parents are incredibly positive about the setting and describe it as an amazing place."

The nursery cares for babies and children up to the age of five, and many of their parents work at the science centre.
