A THIEF stole an elderly woman's purse while she was shopping in Morrisons.

The victim, a 73-year-old woman, was at the supermarket in Banbury when she was targeted.

Thames Valley Police has today released a CCTV image, of a man who could have 'vital' information about the theft.

The thief swiped the woman's purse at about 10.45am, on Wednesday, January 8.

Cards inside the stolen purse were then used later to make purchases.

Investigating officer PC Christopher Eaton, based at Banbury police station, said: "I believe the man in these images may have vital information that will help the investigation.

"If you recognise this man, or believe it could be you, please get in touch."

The man pictured appeared to be wearing a long black coat, a hat, jeans and black trainers.

Police did not state exactly how the purse was stolen, nor how much money was spent on the stolen cards.
