Former Celtic and Scotland football star Jackie McNamara is currently in hospital after he collapsed on his doorstep.

He was rushed to hospital in York, England before he was reportedly tranferred to another hospital in Hull.

As The Daily Record reports, it is understood the former Celtic defender is undergoing surgery.

A source told The Daily Record: "He has been taken to hospital to undergo an operation.”

Speaking to The Daily Record, a friend also said: "Jackie was out walking the dog on Saturday near his home in York.

“He became unwell quite quickly and he headed back to his house.

“But he must have been really poorly because he did not make it back into the house.

“He collapsed on the doorstep and his family found him.

“So this is a really worrying time for his family and his friends.

“We’re just hoping that he can come through this.”

Jackie's daugher took to Twitter to thank the public for its ongoing support during this time.

On Jackie's Twitter, she said: "This is Jackie’s daughter.

"Thank you all for your kind words and support.

"My dad is getting the best care possible, as you all can understand this is difficult for us as a family and request privacy at this time."
