A STREET in Oxford city centre was closed this morning due to an assault.

Two ambulances and eight officers were seen in Queen Street with the road closed off for four hours.

Thames Valley Police has confirmed officers were called at around 4am to reports of an assault.

A man was taken to hospital and has been discharged with minor injuries.

Police closed the road and bus operators reported diversions until 8am.

Thames Travel tweeted: "Due to an incident on Queen Street, our River Rapids services are currently unable to serve Westgate.

Buses will divert via St Aldates and High Street, turning around at the Plain. St Aldates stop will be served as normal. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause."

Oxford Bus Company tweeted at 6.50am that Queen Street was closed due to a 'police incident' and its City3, City8, City9 and City35 were unable to serve the Westgate.
