A BARCLAYS branch will close later on this year after it identified that only 68 customers use it exclusively for their banking.

The Headington branch will close on Friday, May 1.

The bank issued a series of reasons why it is closing, including the number of transactions going down in the last two years and customers using other ways to do their banking.

Customers are now also more inclined to bank via the Barclays app, online and by telephone, the bank has said.

Furthermore, the bank has revealed that in the past 12 months, 63 per cent of the branch's customers have been using neighbouring branches.

Barclays will still have branches in Oxford city centre, Cowley and Kidlington.
