A SECONDARY school has announced the name of its new headteacher.

Didcot Girls' School has appointed Georgina Littler to take over from current head Tom Goodenough, when he vacates the post after Easter.

In a letter to parents yesterday, school leaders said she had been offered the job following a 'rigorous interview process' last week.

The letter said: "Miss Littler impressed us all with her commitment to high standards, her ability to inspire and lead others, and her ambition for all of your daughters to enjoy a truly exceptional education in an all girls' setting.

"Very experienced and well versed in all areas of school leadership, Miss Littler is a passionate advocate for the power of education to transform the life chances of young people.

"Her values are aligned completely with those of our school."

The new head, quoted in the letter, said it was a 'huge privilege' to have been offered the job.

She will become the academy's headteacher from Friday, May 1.

Miss Littler completed her PGCE at Oxford University and, following several years teaching in Oxfordshire, worked in international schools in Egypt and the Philippines.

She is currently deputy headteacher at Tewkesbury School in Gloucestershire.

Mr Goodenough announced last month that he would be stepping down to pursue a career outside of education.

He has worked at the school for six years, becoming head in September 2018, and has been in teaching for 15 years.

The new letter said the school is 'hugely grateful' to Mr Goodenough for his leadership and that he will work closely with his successor to 'ensure a seamless handover'.

It was signed off by Ruth Elliot, chair of the school's governors, and Rachael Warwick, executive headteacher of the Ridgeway Education Trust.

The trust runs Didcot Girls' as well as neighbouring St Birinus School and Sutton Courtenay CE Primary School.

Didcot Girls' School is the county's only all-girls' state secondary school, and teachers more than 1,400 girls.
