THIS stunning picture captures RAF C-130J Hercules landing at RAF Brize Norton.

It was flown by crews of 47 Squadron on a routine training sortie before returning home at sunset.

The Hercules is the RAF's primary tactical transport aircraft.

It has been the backbone of UK operational tactical mobility tasks since it was brought into service in 1999.

The aircraft is frequently employed to operate in countries or regions where there is a threat to aircraft.

The plane is over 38ft tall with a wingspan of 132ft 7 inches.

It has a cruising speed of 368 mph and can reach a maximum altitude of 40,000ft.

RAF Brize Norton is the largest RAF station with approximately 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civilian staff and is home to the C-130J Hercules .
