A DRUG dealer who was plying cannabis and 'street dealing' in Bicester has pleaded guilty at court.

Ciaran Brophy appeared via videolink from HMP Bullingdon at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

The 23-year-old of Buckingham Road, Newton Purcell admitted one count which alleged drug dealing.

He pleaded guilty to a count of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B - cannabis.

Prosecutors claimed that the single offence took place on October 12 2018 in Bicester.

Brophy pleaded guilty yesterday to having 11.61g of the banned substance which he was intending to sell on to other drug users.

After his plea had been entered his defence barrister Lucy Ffrench asked for a pre-sentence report before his final sentencing hearing.

That report aims to explore the background behind the offence as well as all sentencing options which might be available.

Referring to his 'basis of plea' - what he accepts and does not accept of the offence - she told the court: "He accepts selling to a number of people, approximately 10 people.

"And it was a very short lived operation."

She added that while Brophy does have previous convictions he does not have any offences recorded against him relating to drugs matters.

Presiding Judge Ian Pringle QC agreed to adjourn the case so that the National Probation Service can prepare a report about Brophy.

He said: "It is obviously in your interest to co-operate with the author of that report, who will come to see you.

"In the meantime you will remain in custody."

The final sentencing hearing was adjourned until February 27 and he was remanded in custody to await that final date.
