Man held on suspicion of murder after woman plunges to her death from Clarendon House, Hove

The woman, in her early 30s, fell from Clarendon House in Hove just before 6am. She died at the scene.

A pool of blood lay on the floor at the foot of the tower block.

Witness Lesley Strong, 59, lives three floors below the man’s flat and heard a “loud bang” during the night.

She said: “At first I thought the wind had taken something off the roof and I didn’t think anything of it.

“Then I heard a male voice shouting ‘help me, help me’."

Lesley also saw the woman's body being removed in the morning. She said she was "really shaken up by it.”

Police said the man and the woman knew one another.

Two officers were stationed outside the door of a flat on the seventh floor. Several others sealed off the back of the high-rise building with police tape.

Neighbour Kelly Wheatley, 42, was devastated by the news. She said: “It’s such a shock. You don’t expect things like this to happen where you live. It’s not a very nice place to be at the moment. That poor woman. It’s such devastating news."

Sussex Police said the death is being investigated by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team.

It said the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), has been notified because the force had recently been in contact with the man and woman.
