AN 'EXCITING' new library has swung open its doors for the first time after months of building work and preparations.
The new Barton Community Library has been opened as part of a project between the county and city councils as well as Barton Community Association – which will run the hub and put on activities.
The library, at Underhill Circus, is now part of a network of 44 libraries and home libraries in Oxfordshire.

The idea is that it will become a hub for the growing community of Barton as new 3,000 new residents move into the 885-home Barton Park Development.
At the opening event, on Monday, Barton councillor Mike Rowley joined Oxfordshire county councillor Lorraine Lindsay-Gale in the cutting a themed book cake.
Local children's artist Korky Paul drew pictures of wizards with the help of the 70 people who turned up in the afternoon.

Ms Lindsay-Gale, who is the Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member for education and cultural services, said: “I am proud that Oxfordshire County Council has maintained all of its libraries throughout a period when some councils had to close theirs.
“Now we are starting a new era for the service which will see a wider range of services provided, serving residents of all ages as part of their communities.

“So it is a great pleasure to see our first, new community library opening in Barton.
“I know it will add an exciting new service for the community.”
Library manager Stephanie Tee added: “I am constantly amazed by the enthusiasm the community has for the library from the Barton Bash in September to yesterday’s grand opening. People always say how great it is to finally have a library in Barton.
"It’s fantastic so many children in Barton are using the library and I’m thrilled to have a bunch of junior ‘regulars’ already!
"As well as getting books to people, take up for other services offered at Barton, such as printing and internet access is building too.
"We will need volunteers to help run the library and the Community Association is very supportive in this.”
Marie Tidball, a cabinet member for supporting local communities said it was a 'great resource'.
Barton Community Library can be accessed through Barton Neighbourhood Centre, which is open Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm.
