A CHARITY that trains dogs to help for blind and partially sighted people is urgently looking for new volunteers in the city.

Guide Dogs is particularly in need of someone to run their Oxford central fundraising group, which organises community events and collections to raise money for the organisation's work.

The charity relies on donations to keep its services running and Guide Dogs has local groups dedicated to fundraising all across the country.

There are several roles available within the groups including coordinator, merchandise coordinator, collection box coordinator and general fundraisers.

Volunteers will receive support from the national charity to help them achieve their goals.

There are around two million people living with sight loss in the UK.

Guide Dogs supports people with a visual impairment to maintain their independence and live the life they choose.

There are lots of different services on offer, ranging from the well-known guide dog service, through to supporting children and young people and their families, helping with access to technology, and volunteer-led services such as My Guide – where a guide helps someone with sight loss be more independent.

Mireille Haviland, Community Fundraising Development Officer for the charity, said: “Our volunteers often report that volunteering with Guide Dogs has given them the opportunity to connect with their local community whilst being able to give something back to a great cause.

"All our volunteers enjoy being part of their group and making a real difference to people living with sight loss.”
