NOMINATIONS will close on Monday for the 19th annual Thames Valley Police Community Policing Awards.

The yearly celebration of the force's work in the community will be held in May.

The ceremony takes place at Eynsham Hall, near Witney, and allows people from across the county and Thames Valley to recognise and nominate the work of officers, staff and volunteers who have made a positive impact and contribution to their community last year.

The deadline for nominations is Monday February 24.

Until then, residents and officers have been asked to think about whether they know anybody who is deserving of one of the awards.

People can be nominated for eight 'of the year' awards, those are: community support officer, police community support officer (PCSO), special constable, diversity champion, cadet, volunteer, community volunteer and response officer.

There will also be a special 'problem solving' award which will be given to the group or person who has worked to solve a problem in the community.

It could be reducing anti-social behaviour or reducing crime overall – but it has to have made an impact locally.

Last year's Oxfordshire winner for the police community support officer of 2019 was Magda Molenda.

On getting her award, she said: β€œThe recognition that I have received through this award has shown me that that the work I do makes a difference to the public and knowing that I have helped people is the most important thing of all. I am very proud to work for Thames Valley Police but I could not achieve all of this without the support of the great team of officers and staff that I work with.”
