A CARE home in Abingdon has been praised in a health watchdog report for its 'excellent' staff.

The Old Station House, which is run by the Order of St John Care Trust, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on October 24.

A report, published on December 19, rated the Abbey Close facility as 'good' and singled out carers for particular praise.

It said staff at the care home, which looks after 40 elderly people in private flats, treated residents with 'dignity and respect'.

It continued: "People were supported by staff who were kind and caring. One person told us, 'the carers are excellent, couldn't be better'."

The CQC report did, however, highlight there were not always enough staff, meaning for safety the care home was judged as 'requires improvement'.

All others categories we found to be 'good'.
