A MAN caught being drunk and disorderly in an Oxfordshire street and failing to attend an initial court hearing has been fined.

Jack Locker appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday facing one count of being drunk and disorderly and another of failing to attend court.

The 19-year-old of Middleton Road, Banbury, pleaded guilty to both counts at that hearing.

Outlining the case prosecutor Clare Barclay said that police were called to an address in Middleton Road on December 3 at about 5am.

Locker - who was described as 'intoxicated and abusive' and shouting and swearing in the street - was asked to leave the area by police.

Despite requests to leave he returned and was ultimately arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

In mitigation his defence solicitor said that Locker had been at his partner's address and that both had been drinking.

The court heard an argument ensued after Locker went to bed because he had to work the next day, while his partner didn't want him to.

After leaving the house he tried to get back inside and the police were called.

Locker accepted that he was drunk, magistrates were told, and he missed his initial court hearing because of a misunderstanding about the date he was due to attend.

Ultimately magistrates imposed a fine of £50 for the charge of being drunk and disorderly and he must pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £85.

There was no separate penalty for the charge of failing to attend his original court hearing.
