A WITNEY GP surgery has been rated poorly by a health watchdog.

The Nuffield Practice was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on November 12 and judged as 'requires improvement'.

A report published on December 19 setting out the reasons for the rating, said the Welch Way practice, which has eight GPs and serves a population of 12,000, was 'inconsistent' at managing safety and failed to have 'clear and effective processes for managing risks'.

It stated: "Systems to mitigate the risks relating to the health, safety and welfare of service users and others who may be at risk were managed inconsistently."

The CQC report added: "The processes in place to identify, assess and mitigate risks to patient safety were not always operated effectively."

It said the practice needed to establish effective systems to 'ensure good governance in accordance with the fundamental standards of care'.

A notice on the practice’s website said the practice had 'unfortunately' been given the low rating but added: “This will not affect your care in any way; it was due to some errors that were evident on the day of the inspection.

"All of the errors were corrected on the day or at the latest within two days of the inspection.”
