A MENOPAUSE cafe will be coming to Didcot in 2020, aiming to break down the taboo around menopause and to increase the awareness of the impact on those experiencing it.

The cafe will open January 7 and will run on the first of each month.

It will be held in Cornerstone’s Nourish Cafe between 10am and 12pm.

The cafe will be open to both men and women of all ages to reflect on the ‘third stag of life’.

Event organiser Emma Horwill said: “We are really excited about holding a local Menopause Café. Having struggled through the past five years with menopause, I am thrilled to be able to try and be there for others, so they don’t feel isolated like I did.”

The idea for the Didcot scheme followed the world’s first Menopause Cafe which was held in Perth, Scotland, in 2017.

Since then, several Menopause Cafes have been organised throughout the UK including in some workplaces.

It is not just cafes: a Menopause festival has also been held in Perth with speakers, films, comedians and creative workshops.

Rachel Weiss, who founded the whole movement, said: “Unfortunately, many women feel that they should just ‘get on with’ the Menopause, with some never talking to their friends or family about it, but the reality is that it affects all women eventually, not forgetting those who live and work with them.”
