TWO flood warnings and a slew of less serious alerts remain active in Oxfordshire this afternoon.

The environment agency has issued a red flood warning for the River Ray at Islip, and for the River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave.

It says property flooding is possible for the latter, and has urged residents to 'remain safe and aware of your local surroundings' and avoid using low-lying footpaths near watercourses.

Of the River Ray, its advice states: "Property flooding is not currently expected. River levels remain high but are beginning to very gradually fall.

"Low-[lying] land, footpaths and roads will continue to be flooded whilst levels remain high.

"Rainfall is forecast today which may be heavy at times, with further heavy and possibly persistent rainfall forecast overnight into the early hours of Friday morning.

"We expect river levels to remain high throughout this week."
