For many years McCartneys, the Mid Wales estate agents and auctioneers, has proudly supported a charity of the year, raising funds for a variety of good causes.

This year saw them tackle a range of activities for The Alzheimer’s Society UK from the niceties of holding cake sales, to the challenge of climbing Pen Y fan – 10 times in 24 hours.

The team decided to announce the total raised in 2019 and reveal who they will be helping in 2020, but with a difference.

During a meeting at head office in mid-November it was suggested that they incorporate a Love Actually cue cards scene. Of course time being against them, and the partners that were involved having such busy diaries, there were mutterings of ‘it’s like herding cats’ frequently heard from the marketing department.

The location for the scene was much easier to source. A gorgeous Grade II cottage that the Knighton office were selling in Russell Street was lent to them by the very kind vendor. They just had to get it done before the imminent sale.

The script was written, the staff singing carols arranged and DC the dog booked for his cameo appearance.

Tom Carter, who plays the ‘door opener’, says: “DC was with us when we climbed Pen Y Fan and trained with me for the half marathons, he’s part of the team.”

The day after filming, (which had caused a few heads to be turned as people passed the street), a video was circulated via Downing Street showing that Boris Johnson had done the same scene for his campaign. Jamie Tulloch, the ‘cue card holder’ laughs as he tells us: “We had fun with that one. Boris had been to the Welsh Winter Fair and trimmed a sheep while Jenny, (a partner and auctioneer) commentated, so we had a few pictures that we used on social media to say he was trying to be part of Team McCartneys.”

Eventually, despite the cold and rain showers, it all came together and they were thrilled to announce on one of the cards that more than £2,000 had been raised for the Alzheimer’s Society UK.

Since then more money has been coming in from their various offices and the figure is now nearer to £3,000.

Senior partner, Glyn Owens said: “We’re thrilled with the amount we raised this year for such a worthy charity. Next year we’re proud to be doing the same for Cancer Research UK. We wanted to announce both of these and at the same time wish everyone a Merry Christmas with a smile.

"The film has definitely done that.”
