MOTORISTS and cyclists can expect quieter commutes for the next two weeks, after schools broke up for Christmas.

Most Oxfordshire state schools marked the end of term yesterday, and will not return until Monday, January 6.

Many pupils had a half day yesterday, while some finished earlier in the week.

Term dates differ from school to school, but many follow that set by Oxfordshire County Council for parents' convenience.

Some will return later due to inset days, also known as staff training days, when pupils are not required to attend.
