CHURCH goers on the Barton estate have been providing Christmas cheer by placing 500 knitted angels around the streets.

Rev Ben Baker, curate at St Mary’s Church, said the knitted and wooden angels were now dotted around the Barton estate and Sandhills.

He said: “As people leave to go to work and as children walk to school, they will find on their doorsteps, garden gates, street signs and fences, a Christmas gift in the shape of a small angel decoration.

“For the past few months, members of St Mary’s Church and others too have been busy planning for this Christmas surprise that seeks to bless the local community, create some festive spirit and share a message of God’s love.”

Young people have been busy decorating the wooden angels while women in the church have been busy knitting.
