CHILDREN twirled and tapped in their school's very own Strictly-inspired dance contest.

Wantage CE Primary School held the competition to raise money for Children in Need in November, and has now revealed the fundraising total.

The school's efforts raised almost £440 for the charity, in the style of the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Twelve acts performed, two from each year group, in front of the whole school community - including a panel of staff 'judges' and hosts.

Teaching assistant Joshua Ballard, who helped to organise the fundraiser, said: "It was an amazing afternoon filled with such talented and inspirational children.

"There was such a buzz in the school hall that left everyone feeling joyous and proud of what their peers achieved."

Pupil Annie Beames was named the school's dance champion.
