IT MAY be almost a year away but the ballot has officially opened for runners wanting to compete in the next Oxford Half Marathon.

The event, which passes many of the city's famous landmarks, is set to return for the 10th time on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Due to the 13.1-mile race’s growing popularity, race entries are allocated via public ballot.

Entries will be selected at random and runners that are successful will receive their invitations in March.

Local running clubs will get an allotment of guaranteed entries outside of the ballot.

Successful ballot applicants that complete registration in March are allowed to defer their entry up until two months before the race.

Jessica Frey, chief executive of Virgin Sport, said: “We are looking forward to seeing the streets of Oxford light up once again with an even bigger and bolder event.
