The Wallingford Historical and Archaeological society has received the Queen's award for voluntary service.

The local group of volunteers have been given the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.

Her Majesty the Queen awarded the Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society for engaging the community with local history through research, archaeology, publications and its museums.

The award is an engraved domed glass crystal with a signed certificate from the Queen.

However, the Wallingford Museum will be closing for its winter break and will be re-opening on March 3rd 2020.

Book lovers and those doing their Christmas shopping, in the meantime can enjoy the Wallingford Museum's bookstall while the museum is closed for refurbishment.

The stall still has a great selection of second hand books, with both fiction and non-fiction on sale.

The Museums stall will be open through December, January and February every Friday from 10.30 am to 3.00 pm and every Saturday from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm.
