A 22-YEAR-OLD was hit with a screwdriver during a 'terrifying' burglary which saw five intruders smash their way into his Abingdon home.

At around 8.45pm on Thursday, the thieves broke a glass patio door at the back of the property in Metcalfe Close.

Once they were inside they went upstairs to a bedroom where they across a young man who was forced to lay down on a bed.

He was then hit on the arm and foot with a screwdriver.

The 22-year-old was told to get into the bathroom and stay there.

Cash was stolen from the house, before the thieves left through the smashed patio door.

The young man did not need hospital treatment.

At least three of the intruders were men, with the first described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall and stocky.

He was dressed in a black cap, a face covering, and long sleeves and trousers.

The second was white, around 6ft tall and slim. He was wearing a cap and a face covering, and had dark hair and in long sleeves and trousers.

There was also a third white man but police said the victim does not remember any further description.

No details of the other two burglars has been released.

Investigating officer, DC Carly Milward, of Abingdon police station, said: "This was a terrifying experience for this victim, who should have the right to feel safe in their own home.

"An amount of cash was taken from the property, and I am now appealing for any witnesses who were in the area who could assist me with any information they have about this.
