A micro-brewery will launch a school for beer enthusiasts, who want to learn the craft.

The Botley-based, Tap Social Movement, announced the start of their Brew School in January 2020 at their site at Curtis Industrial Estate.

The company will be offering courses and equipment hire for individuals and groups who want to learn how to brew and take home their own creations.

Director, Paul Humpherson, said: "This would be a great Christmas present".

He said management are still working on exact timings and pricing but confirmed that the Brew School will begin in mid to late January and it will run during Saturdays.

During the lessons, people will be taught about the fermentation process of pale ale and stout and about various ingredients and tastes.

While an instructor will be present during the sessions to advise on process, use of equipment and ingredients, eager brewers will have full control of the unique experience.

Speaking from experience, Mr Humpherson explained: "Home brewing could be messy.

"Airing cupboards are ideal to store buckets of beer but the trouble is sometimes the beer explodes everywhere."

He advised that one brewing session should produce between 20 to 30 litres of beer which amounts to 40 to 50 bottles.

The fermentation process would take between seven to ten days, so students will have to return at a later stage to bottle up the alcohol.

The director said the lessons have been in the works for a while as there has been consistent demand from customers but first they wanted to open their second site at the White House pub on Abingdon Road.

Avid brewers are advised to keep an eye on www.tapsocialmovement.com where more details will be released in the beginning of December, just in time for Christmas presents.
