POLICE have stepped up reassurance patrols after an armed 'stand-off' in Witney earlier this week.

Officers said their presence will be heightened this weekend after a 'disturbance' in Lancut Road, during which a woman suffered minor injuries.

Police were called to the residential road at about 8.20pm on Monday, to reports that a man was armed inside a home with an air rifle.

Officers searched the property but did not find the man, although they did recover the air rifle.

In a post on the TVP West Oxfordshire Facebook page yesterday, officers said: "This evening officers will be conducting reassurance patrols in response to the following incident.

"We are investigating this incident and would ask anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference 43190360915.

"Officers believe there was no wider danger to the public and will be conducting patrols into the weekend."

A resident described what happened as a 'stand-off' and reported seeing a heavy police presence, including four armed response cars and a dog unit.

Officers blocked off both ends of Lancut Road and were present into Tuesday morning, neighbours said.
