A SCHOOL that has spent years in special measures now offers pupils 'outstanding' personal development and an ambitious education, Ofsted has said.

West Kidlington Primary and Nursery School has finally waved goodbye to its 'inadequate' Ofsted rating after four years, and has now been rated 'good' overall .

A new report of the 367-pupil school said: "Pupils thrive at the school because it is extremely caring and nurturing.

"They benefit from the huge range of inspirational experiences the school provides.

"Leaders have high ambitions for all pupils and make sure that they get off to a flying start."

The school in Kidlington was rated 'good' in all areas except 'personal development', which was given the top judgement of 'outstanding'.

It had previously been rated 'inadequate' in 2015, when concerns were raised about issues including safety and pupil absence.

It converted into an academy in 2017, under the White Horse Federation, which oversees more than 30 academies in the South of England.

The latest inspection, which was carried out over a two-day period in September, was the school's first since it converted into an academy, and the first since Ofsted introduced a new framework in September.

Ofsted said: "Pupils live and breathe the school’s values.

"They are proud when they receive rewards for putting them into action.

"Pupils treat each other, and staff, kindly. They fully embrace the school’s motto, ‘be kind, give your best’."

The school's headteacher Simon Isherwood, who joined in September 2016 to guide improvements, said children made him proud during Ofsted's visit.

In a letter to parents, he said: "Ofsted recognised that something exemplary could be felt during the two days.

"The values and culture of a school is so important – great learning needs this, it is the heartbeat and soul of a school."

He said he recognised the school's 'potential and uniqueness' when he took up post, adding: "I am delighted that the school has removed the label that was placed several years ago and becomes a very good school on paper once again.

"The work does not stop here we need to work together – giving our best and being kind at every opportunity."
