A dog owner wants Oxford Mail readers to back her body-boarding pet's bid to become Britain's Superdog.

Dog mad Sarah Dugdale, from Falcon Close, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, has been showing off her pet Mason at every opportunity since she bought him as a 14-month-old a year ago.

The lovable Staffordshire bull terrier has impressed judges at several dog shows - picking up nearly 100 rosettes on the way.

His success belies the fact he could not be trusted to walk without a lead when Miss Dugdale first took him in.

But her care and the constant attention of her three children has filled Mason with confidence.

Mason has been body-boarding off the Welsh coast and even developed goalkeeping skills under 33-year-old Miss Dugdale's expert tuition.

Now he has made his way into the last 10 of the Kennel Club's online Superdog contest.

But he finds himself up against tough competition in the shape of a pooch that can understand sign language and a champion greyhound.

To go all the way he needs to win a public vote - and Miss Dugdale has appealed to Oxford Mail readers to log on and make Mason top dog.

She said: "I think Mason has been amazing. We did not get him until he was 14 months old and everything he has learned since then has been great. He's so intelligent.

"He's a really great character and fantastic with the kids. Everything we do is revolved around him."

To back Mason's bid for the big time, see www.thekennelclub.org.uk/ item/1365 before Wednesday, and cast your vote.

The victorious hound wins nothing - other than the prestige of being Superdog.
