AS HEAVY rainfall batters Oxfordshire flood alerts have been issued warning high river levels could lead to flooding on roads.

It comes as a yellow weather warning has also been issued for much of the south east, including Oxfordshire.

The Met Office warning, which will remain in place until midnight, says the rain is likely to cause 'transport disruption'.

Oxford Mail:

It states: "Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.

"Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer."

There are currently eight flood alerts for Oxfordshire.

The flood alert for the Oxford area of the River Thames said property flooding 'is not currently expected' but that river levels on the Thames had 'risen steadily overnight'.

It added: "Therefore, flooding of roads and farmland is possible. Further rain, which could be heavy at times, is forecast today and overnight 9/11/19.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings."
