A PRIMARY school has been rated 'good' following its first full Ofsted inspection in 11 years.

Stanton Harcourt CE Primary School, near Witney, welcomed inspectors during a two-day visit in October.

The new report, published yesterday, said: "Pupils love being part of their ‘small school with a big heart’.

"They can explain that this motto describes how they all work together and help each other to learn and grow.

"They feel safe. A nurturing culture shines through the work of all involved with the school."

Its previous full inspection was back in 2008, when it was given the top rating of 'outstanding'.

It had a shorter interim assessment in 2011, when Ofsted said the same standard had been maintained.

The school in Stanton Harcourt had 116 pupils on roll during the recent visit.

This was its first visit since converting into an academy in 2014, under the Eynsham Partnership Academy Trust, and the first since Ofsted introduced its new inspection framework in September.

The regulator's report said: "We saw hard-working, respectful, well-behaved pupils throughout the inspection.

"Pupils embrace the concepts of equality and inclusivity.

"They are proud of their school’s ‘CREATE’ values of ‘care, respect, equality, achieve, trust and excellence’.

"Leaders use these values as the backbone of the school’s work, to make sure pupils develop as global citizens who are confident and respectful."

The school was rated 'good' in all areas of assessment, which if Ofsted's second-highest standard.

Its latest parent newsletter, published just after Ofsted left, said: "Thank you for all your kind words and wishes.

"It is the parents that we need to thank for sending such a great bunch of children to us."

Ofsted said the academy trust, which also runs other schools including Bartholomew School in Eynsham, has a 'strong ambition for the quality of education at the school."
