A GROUP of Extinction Rebellion protesters are planning a picket outside a council building tomorrow.

The XR protesters are planning to demonstrate outside of Oxfordshire County Council ahead of its first meeting after the October half term tomorrow morning.

The protesters plan to stand outside County Hall on New Road from 9am, ahead of the meeting at 10.30am.

Steve Dawe, a local co-ordinator for XR said the issues at stake included:

  • the County Council's report on its Climate policy, which according to XR 'only refers to its own activities and not the wider community of Oxfordshire'
  • a motion against the Cambridge-Oxford Expressway
  • a motion on the Government consultation about a Future Homes Standard which suggests all homes be carbon free homes from 2025

Mr Dawe said: "I expect this to be a picket rather than demonstration, I cannot be there personally since like many others I will be working on that day.

"It is fair to say that some of the usual groups I would expect to organise for this event have moved to organising activities around the General Election as a high priority.

"Lobbying about Climate/Expressway issues are to be expected, and some public meetings are possible."
