Following an appeal by the organiser of Age Concern for donations in October, 1979, a pensioner wrote to the Oxford Mail asking for some specific help.
In a letter she said 'we all have different needs' and that what would most benefit her would be somewhere to sit when she or her daughter took her dog for a walk around Margaret Road recreation ground.

The Headington resident added: "We should often like to stay much longer but there is only one seat, or to be correct there are only the remains of a seat."
She added: "Could I please appeal to Age Concern, the city council or whoever would like to make it their concern, to provide us with a seat?"
