FIREFIGHTERS attended an incident at the Old Inn at Mullion this morning.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said that crews were on the scene at the Old Inn, where a fire started in a deep fat fryer in the kitchen.

Part of the roof is thatched and at 11am the service said that firefighters wearing breathing apparatus had extinguished the fire and prevented it spreading to the roof.

Appliances from Mullion, Helston, St Keverne and Tolvaddon along with specialist support from Falmouth and St Just were sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said at the time: "Crews are now attending an incident at the Old Inn, Mullion. If possible please try and avoid the area of Churchtown, Mullion as it is now gridlocked."

Shortly after midday, an update from the fire service said: "The oil from the fryers has been drained and removed from the building.

"Firefighters are ensuring that the scene is left in a safe condition. The fire appliances have been moved to allow the road to reopen."

Posting on its Facebook page on Friday afternoon, the pub said: "The pub had a small fryer fire this morning, so unfortunately our kitchen is currently closed, but the bar is open as usual.

"No one was hurt.
