A JURY has put the death of a mental heath patient down to misadventure.

Paramedics rushed to Littlemore Mental Health Centre on April 21, 2018 after Jeffrey Sean Byrne was found on the floor of his room in cardiac arrest.

Despite CPR attempts from staff and paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into his death opened on October 14 and a jury have now concluded that he died after 'misadventure'.

Death by misadventure is recorded by coroners after accidents that happen because of risks caused by actions taken on purpose by the person.

A drug overdose is usually recorded as death by misadventure.

Over the week-long inquest at Oxfordshire coroners court, the assistant coroner Sonia Hayes read statements from those who had treated the 51-year-old.

On the first day staff nurse Rejoice Muzila, who was regularly the nurse in charge of Mr Byrne's ward, gave evidence in person.

She said he had a known problem with alcohol and drugs and there had been an incident where paramedics had been called a month before his death when he was on another ward.

She said that despite being sectioned after a criminal offence, he had been about to be released but a formal decision was yet to be made.
